Radiology welcomes new 3T MRI scanner

Our radiology department has recently welcomed a new Siemens Vida 3T scanner – the first 3T scanner to be installed at the trust.

It’s hoped that the scanner’s ability to offer enhanced imaging will be of benefit to those patients who require particularly detailed scans – for example patients who require MRI of the breast or prostate.

Dr Paul Burn, our lead radiologist for MRI, said: “The new scanner is tremendously exciting for the trust. The higher magnetic strength and powerful gradients will allow us to better detect some cancers, such as prostate, and will improve image quality across a wide range of body areas.”

Adam Turner, our head of imaging, said: “While this has been expected as part of our replacement programme for a number of years, the planning and training is a huge achievement for the MRI team. The new scanner is producing some incredible images and will further improve the quality of our service.”

If you’re worried about cancer or have any symptoms please seek medical help – the earlier a cancer is diagnosed, the better. The NHS is here to help you, safely.
