Lived Experience Network Stories

Stories from our Lived Experience Network

Our Lived Experience Network is open to all staff who have lived experience of living with mental or physical health disabilities, long-term conditions or neurodiversity. It is also for anyone who wants to be an ally to support the work of the network.

During 2020-21 our Lived Experience Network have videoed their stories of what it is like to work with a disability. These stories comprise a ‘human library’ of short video stories which explain what working life can be like for people with impairments or who are disabled by barriers that working life can put in place.

The videos are being shared as a celebration of our diverse workforce and the unique perspectives and talents that we all bring to Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. These videos are being used in our trust training to raise awareness of different physical and mental health conditions and neurodiversity and ways in which managers can support staff with better understanding, reasonable adjustments and flexible working practices.

The following 15-minute video is a summary of some of these stories.
