If you are being treated in Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC) it will be for emergency care that usually will be finished that day so you don’t have to be admitted to a ward.
We see patients with acute medical problems, treating conditions such atrial fibrillation (abnormal heart rhythm), blocked blood vessel in your lungs (pulmonary embolism) or in your legs (DVT), cellulitis (bacterial skin infection) and diabetes. Where possible we aim to treat and discharge you on the same day.
AEC is open 8am – 8.30pm, Monday – Friday and there are no set visiting times.
We ask that if you have any type of infection or any recent contact with others that have had an infection, that you don’t attend the unit. This includes contact or recent diarrhoea and vomiting.
Soup and sandwiches are served at midday and again at 5pm, we also provide a tea and coffee trolley and snacks. Special diets can be catered for, please inform the nurse on your arrival.
