We are a team of experienced librarians, committed to supporting outstanding patient care by providing fast, effective and accurate access to quality research and evidence.

We support staff and students across the NHS, including staff and students working in or providing services for the NHS in Somerset and those working in the ambulance service in the South West.

    Paula Younger - Knowledge Specialist

    Library and Knowledge Services, Musgrove Park Hospital

    Paula Younger has worked in healthcare and science libraries for over 15 years, including in the NHS, Ministry of Defence, and Higher Education; she previously worked in training and education settings. Her particular interests include the use of technology to support library services and healthcare information in languages other than English. She has an MA in Information and Library Management from the University of Northumbria, a Modern Languages PGCE from the University of Newcastle, and other professional and vocational qualifications. Her dangerous weaknesses are chocolate, and cats.

    Jess Pawley - Improvement Information Specialist

    Library and Knowledge Services/Improvement, Musgrove Park Hospital

    Jess works across the library and quality improvement teams, and has 14 years’ experience in NHS libraries. She helps to support quality improvement by conducting evidence searches to support change and improvement projects across the Trust. She is also part of the Evidence for QI (E4QI) project to promote the link between libraries and quality improvement. Jess also has an interest in systematic reviews. She has previous experience of working as a clinical librarian within the Beacon Centre, and recently provided knowledge management and evidence support for NHS England’s COVID-19 response, as part of the Behaviour Change Unit.

    Roxanne Hart - Information Specialist

    Library and Knowledge Services, Musgrove Park Hospital

    Roxanne is the embedded librarian for Corporate services. This is a newly created post (2020) which aims to ensure that evidence based decision making is not limited to clinical services but extends also to corporate services. Her role is to ease the flow of quality, relevant pieces of information to enable decision makers to more easily adopt an evidence based approach. Her background is medical librarianship, working in hospitals and universities in Canada, Ireland, and the UK. She has been at the Trust since 2017. She has a professional interest in systematic reviews.

    Cate Newell - LKS Manager

    Library and Knowledge Services, Musgrove Park Hospital

    Cate joined the library team in June 2020. Cate has several years of experience of working in both academic and health library sectors, most recently as Reader Services Librarian at the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, managing front of house library services and research support. Cate is keen to develop and grow an already thriving library service, which supports education and research, and delivers high quality, reliable information and knowledge in order to enable excellent, evidence-based patient care in Taunton and across Somerset.

    Florence Gregory - Library Assistant

    Library Assistant, Musgrove Park Hospital

    Florence joined the team in August 2020 and is Library Assistant at MPH Library and Knowledge Services. She is currently completing a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Library, Archive and Information Studies. She deals with your day- to -day enquiries such as book and article requests, queries to do with OpenAthens logins and loaning/ returning books- to name just a few! Her professional interests include sourcing hard to find books/ articles for users and helping to contribute to the Library and Knowledge Service’s Twitter page.

    Veronica Price - Clinical Outreach Librarian

    Library and Knowledge Services, Musgrove Park Hospital

    Veronica joined the library team in January 2021, following many years working in the education and commercial sectors, most recently as a school librarian. She is currently completing her PGDip in Library and Information Management as a distance-learning student with University of Ulster. Her outreach role involves delivering library inductions, providing training in digital, information and health literacies for all healthcare colleagues and students on placement with the Trust. She also works on partnership projects to extend health literacy to the general population and contributes to the library's social media presence.
