Library & Knowledge Services staff are available to train individual staff or small groups. Training can take place in the library, at your workplace, or can be remote training via Webex if you have access to appropriate IT facilities.

You will be introduced to all the electronic information resources available to NHS staff including eJournals, eBooks, healthcare databases and useful websites. LearningZone Mollie
Searching for Evidence (beginners) Assisted Search
You will be introduced to the eight leading healthcare databases and shown how to plan your literature search, how to execute it effectively and how to save and print your results. LearningZone Mollie
Searching for Evidence (advanced) Assisted Search
You will be shown how to search across multiple databases, how to use the thesaurus, the subject headings and the full range of limit options. LearningZone Mollie
Reflection for Professional Development – not just a tick box exercise
These sessions aim to enable staff to step back and reflect on a clinical encounter/event that has affected them at work or at home.
Using a guided writing framework attendees will be able to look objectively at the key aspects of the event in order to support professional development and practice, turning experience into learning. LearningZone Mollie
Library & Knowledge Services induction
You will be given a detailed overview of all Library & Knowledge Services information systems and resources and how to use them. Library registration and obtaining an OpenAthens and Uptodate password are included.
Introduction to Critical Appraisal
This course introduces the basics of critical appraisal and its role in evidence-based practice.
Health Literacy Awareness
These sessions use practical techniquest to demonstrate the importance of making sure patients (and staff) understand the health information they are being given and feel confident enough to ask questions surrounding their healthcare.
Patient and Public Health Information Training
These sessions aim to highlight useful websites which patients can be signposted to, to find reliable and trustworthy health information.

Knowledge Harvesting: connecting people and knowledge
Organizations are at risk of losing critical knowledge as key employees retire or move to a new job. Knowledge harvesting is an approach to help understand and record the knowledge and experience of people and convert the know-how in an expert’s head into an information asset.
