My Postnatal Care

The postnatal period is the time after your baby has been born. If you deliver at Musgrove you will receive postnatal care on either Fern or Bracken ward.

Our midwives and maternity support workers are experienced in the support of women and their babies, not only after normal birth but also after instrumental or caesarean section births.

Infant feeding

Our staff can help you, however you wish to feed your baby but we have a special focus on breastfeeding, because we think this will give your baby the best start in life. There may be circumstances where your baby may not be with you on the ward as they are being cared for within our special care baby unit.  We will encourage and help you to express milk for you to feed your baby

Ward Visiting Times

At present due to Coronavirus we have taken the decision to limit visitors to patient and partners only. This is in order to try and limit exposure of our most vulnerable patients to the virus. We understand this is difficult where siblings and grandparents will be desperately keen to meet the new family additions but hope you can understand why we have made this decision.

For up to date visiting times please speak to your midwife or call Fern ward on 01823 342571.
