Our hospital needs to take reasonable measures for the impact of COVID 19 and we are therefore very sorry that we have had to take the decision to cancel your future appointments with the weight management team. We realise this will mean a period of time without feeling like you are able to move forward, but it is very important that we put measures in place to help support our staff and patients in order to manage COVID 19.
Please do not attend the appointment at the hospital, as you will not be seen.
We will do our best to rearrange your appointment as soon as possible, but we cannot give you any indication of when this will be at the present time. In the meantime we would like to direct you towards the resources on this page. If you are struggling during this time please see our statement we are issuing to those who have had their appointments cancelled (supporting information COVID 19).
For any non-urgent queries please feel free to contact the dietitians on email@example.com and we will try to get back to you as soon as we can.”
Weight Management service
Our specialist weight management service has been running since 2003 and is the largest of its kind in the south west. We are a tier 3 weight management service and also provide active support for the tier 4 bariatric surgery service at Musgrove Park Hospital.
Our team of endocrinologists, dietitians and psychologists work closely together to ensure you get an approachable, communicative and high quality service.
You will undergo a careful assessment looking for conditions and factors linked to a higher weight. We will then tailor a treatment plan to improve your health and support weight loss through lifestyle and dietary changes, medications, psychological support. If appropriate, we’ll prepare you for weight loss surgery in the safest possible environment.
We aim to support you to improve your physical health and wellbeing, while improving confidence and optimising nutrition for overall health.
We work closely with our diabetes, endocrine and bariatric surgery services.
We accept referrals from GPs, both in and out of Somerset, and from other secondary care centres across the south west. It is not possible for you to self-refer into our service.
