Volunteers play an important role providing support to people who use our services. We are extremely grateful to all of our incredible volunteers for the work they do to support our patients and our colleagues in our mental health services, community and acute hospitals.
Where can I volunteer?
We have opportunities available in our acute hospitals, Yeovil District Hospital and Musgrove Park Hospital, as well as in our Community Hospital sites.
What if I am not sure which role is for me?
We try to match volunteers to roles that fit their needs and abilities, however it is sometimes easiest to try out a role before you commit. With this in mind we are trialling taster days at Yeovil Hospital.
This is a two day program that enables you to try a variety of roles to get a good idea on what you enjoy the most.

How often do I need to volunteer?
Volunteers can volunteer once a week, once a fortnight, or as many days of the week as they like. We ask that you volunteer with us for a minimum of 6 months where possible.
If you are a student and interested in volunteering out of term time, please make sure you get in touch a couple of months before you would like to start to ensure we have been able to complete your recruitment before your preferred start date.
The length of shift can vary depending on the role you are completing. Some roles are just an hour and a half, some are 4 hours and some volunteers choose to do a whole day. We are very flexible, so please do let us know of your needs.
Volunteer to Career
If you have thought about a career in the NHS but are not sure where to start or how best to begin your career, our Volunteer to Career program is a great stepping stone to support you. As a Neighbourhood Responder, you will gain experience of the work of our Neighbourhood Teams which spans health and social care.
You will be supported with career coaching from our SWAPS team once you have decided which career route you would like to follow.
Volunteer roles are currently available in Harrison House in Taunton and North Sedgemoor.
