Infection control

We take infection control very seriously and we are committed to delivering the highest standards across all our sites to help prevent avoidable infections by ensuring a clean and safe environment.

We believe that the prevention and control of infection is seen as everyone’s responsibility and our Infection Prevention and Control Teams are available to offer expert advice and guidance to colleagues, patients, and visitors.

Hand hygiene

Hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of all infections. We encourage our colleagues, patients and visitors to do this by either washing hands with soap and water, or using the alcohol gel available at the entrances to wards or at the end of every patient’s bed.

All colleagues should be complying with our hygiene codes and washing their hands or using gel between patients. If you see a member of staff not doing this please feel free to ask them to do so.

Visitors should use the gel on the hand stations located at the entrance to each ward and as they leave. Visitors are asked not to come into the hospital if they have diarrhoea, vomiting or a heavy cold.

Cleaning

When visiting patients or attending our hospital yourself if you see any areas that have not been cleaned, please let one of our colleagues know.
