Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a lifelong condition with a relapsing and remitting pattern which can affect people of all ages. Crohns Disease and Ulcerative Colitis being the main two types. It affects up to 1:250 people.

Our IBD Team aims to provide a comprehensive service for the accurate diagnosis and management of IBD.

Patients are commonly diagnosed following an endoscopy, a bowel test, which is performed in the Endoscopy Department at Musgrove, or Bridgwater Hospital, and are mainly managed in the community, attending out-patients as planned or emergency appointments.

Most patients are seen in the outpatient department at Musgrove Park Hospital, but we also have clinics at peripheral hospitals in Wellington and Bridgwater, with a telephone clinic available for stable patients.

We have close links with our colorectal surgical colleagues and work together to achieve the best management for patients.
