Exmoor Rural Health Hub

Fitting healthcare around you.

We know how busy life on the farm can be and how hard it is to find time for your own health. That’s why we’ve set up a pop-up health clinic at Wheddon cross farmers market, designed especially for farmers, agricultural workers, gamekeepers and their families.

Our goal is to make it easier for the farming communities to stay healthy and well for the longer term.

Why does this matter?

Farming is tough work, and we know that your health will come second to that of your livestock. Recent NHS research shows that people in agriculture often face:

  • more health problems than the general population
  • higher levels of stress and depression, especially due to isolation, financial pressures administrative burdens
  • a disproportionately high suicide rate among farmers
  • a higher number of accidents and injuries due to labour shortages
  • long-term aches and pains, even in younger farmers
  • difficulty getting help, whether it’s due to distance, cultural norms, stigma, or just not having the time.

Who we are

Our skilled community care clinicians include:

  • district nurses
  • mental health support worker
  • chiropodist

Many of us come from farming families ourselves, so we understand the lifestyle and the challenges.

Our clinics will have a nurse present who will undertake a clinical health and a mental health check.

What we offer

  • Blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, BMI (height and weight).
  • Lifestyle assessment (smoking, drinking, exercise).
  • Mental health and emotional wellbeing checks.
  • Family history review for things like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer and mental health.
  • Dermatology skin check for moles skin conditions.
  • Advice and signposting to local support services, including voluntary and community organisations.

No judgment. No pressure. Just real, friendly and practical support to help you stay on top of your health and wellbeing.
