Emergency Planning

Often Carers worry about what would happen should they not be able to continue in their caring role.

Having a plan in place can help to ease this worry a little.

You can use our handy guide to document the needs of your loved ones as well as any contact details and information that may help continuity of care.

If I cannot continue caring

If you know that there is a time period that you won’t be able to continue in your caring role, such as for a planned medical procedure, and have no-one who can support you, you can phone Somerset Direct on 0300 123 2224 and ask for temporary emergency respite. You may also want to let the key worker and support team around the person you care for know that you will not be available.

There is also a Carers in Crisis helpline with Adult Social Care.  Carers can contact  Somerset Direct on 0300 123 22 24 and ask for the carers in crisis service.
The help for Carers in Crisis service is available between 8.30am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.
