Hand Therapy Team

The Hand Therapy Team consists of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists who work closely together to assess and treat patients who have sustained a hand or upper limb injury or condition.

Hand Therapy is both an art and a rehabilitation science for the upper extremity. Following assessment of the affected limb a wide range of treatment techniques are used to achieve set therapeutic goals!

Splinting

We offer a specialist splinting service for both post-surgical and non-surgical hand conditions. Splints may be used to reduce pain, support arthritic or weak joints to enhance recovery or prevent deterioration. These include custom made thermoplastic and neoprene splints as well as off the shelf splints some of which can be provided by the NHS others can be brought privately e.g. OA Clinic CMC and Wrist supports.

Functional Assessment

We undertake functional assessments for any hand condition but particularly for rheumatoid and osteoarthritis sufferers. We offer advice on joint protection, packing and labour saving equipment in order to maintain independence at home.
