Appointments last between 30 minutes and 1 hour and could involve several tests, but you may not need every test we offer. We will book the type of appointment necessary for your needs.
During your appointment the clinician may ask you about your family and medical history, and take a look in your ears.
At a hearing test the clinician will discuss the results and let you know if you would benefit from hearing aids or a change in hearing aids. Most of our patients are fitted with digital hearing aids on either an open fit (thin tubes and domes) or a closed fit (ear mould). The clinician will let you know which type of hearing aid would work best for you.
We may refer you onto other healthcare or support services if required, but this will be discussed with you during your appointment.
If you have NHS hearing aids we suggest you get them serviced every 3 to 6 months for thin tubes and domes, and 6 to 8 months for ear moulds. Please see our Support Services page for more information.
Types of appointments
| Hearing Assessment | An audiologist will do a hearing test. These tests usually involve and set of headphones or ear inserts that play beeps or noises, and you may be sat in a specialised sound-treated booth or room. The audiologist may also do other types of testing which we will discuss with you during the appointment. |
| Fitting | After a hearing test you may be invited back for a fitting appointment. An audiologist will help you decide on the best type of hearing aid and fitting for your level of hearing. They will program and fit the hearing aid ensuring it fits securely and sounds comfortable. You will be provided with information on how to get used to your hearing aids and how to care for them. |
| Aftercare | If you require adjustments to the sound of your hearing aids we may book you an aftercare appointment. During these appointments an audiologist can fine tune and adjust the volume of your hearing aids. |
| Repairs | We recommended attending a repair session before you request a hearing test or aftercare appointment. A specially trained Assistant Audiologist will ensure your hearing aids are working properly as sometimes a simple fix is all that is needed. You will be added onto a waiting list for further appointments if required. Please see our section "Hearing Aid Support for Adults in Somerset" for more information on repair services. |
