If you are concerned about symptoms, you don’t need to contact your GP. Instead, you can complete the online self-referral form and refer yourself directly to the Somerset Bladder Service.

This service is only available if you are:

  • over the age of 45
  • registered with a participating GP in Somerset. If you are not registered with a GP, visit the NHS website for support in how to register with a GP.

You do not have to go to your GP in the first instance.

Worried about your pee?

There are some symptoms that are not normal and need to be investigated these are:

  • seeing blood in your pee (even if it has only happened once).
  • pee that looks pink, red or brown

Some of these symptoms are very common and can be caused by other conditions. Having the symptoms does not mean you have cancer, but it is important to get checked. If your symptoms are caused by cancer, finding it early may mean it is easier to treat.

The self-referral form can be complete online or over the telephone. The Somerset Bladder Service operates from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, please call 0300 131 8772.

What happens once you have completed the self-referral form?

The Bladder Service referral form will let you know at the time of completion if you are eligible for this service.

It is worth noting that not everyone will be accepted.

If you qualify for the Somerset Bladder Service, our office team will offer you an appointment in one of our clinics, which will consist of a either CT or ultrasound scan, followed by a flexible cystoscopy and review with a healthcare professional.

You will be provided with detailed information about the investigations, what to expect and how to prepare for your appointments.
