What IS Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes- it can affect women of any age. It is a long-term condition that can have a significant impact on your life, but there are treatments that can help. (Nhs,2019)

Our service

The endometriosis service at Musgrove Park Hospital comprises of a Consultant Gynaecology Surgeon, as well as a Urology and Colorectal Surgeon.

We also have a Nurse Specialist on site and a Pain Team available to us. We can make referrals for you to Fertility, Dieticians and Psycho-sexual counselling if required.

Also regularly working alongside are theatre teams both in Day Surgery and Main Theatre.

Pain and symptom diary

Before your appointment you will be sent an electronic link for a Pain and Symptom Diary. This is a useful tool for you to have as it prepares you for your appointment with the Consultant. It will hopefully help you get a clear picture in your head of what symptoms you are experiencing during your menstrual cycle. There is also a body map within the diary so that you can specifically pinpoint the areas of pain.

Treatment

Treatment for Endometriosis is normally a combination of hormonal therapy and often, but not in all cases, surgery.

  • Surgical options
