About us
We are a specialist, Level 2b inpatient neurological rehabilitation setting. We cater for people in Somerset with new onset or recent deterioration of a neurological condition.
This could be an acquired brain injury or an acute episode or relapse of another neurological condition. Examples of acquired brain injury might include trauma from a fall or a road accident, anoxic brain injury, subarachnoid haemorrhage, infections such as encephalitis, or injury arising from surgical removal of tumour. Examples of other neurological conditions we work with include Guillain-Barre syndrome or multiple sclerosis. We also take spinal injury patients with basic rehabilitation needs although we are not a specialist spinal centre.
We accept patients who are medically stable and in the post-acute stages of their recovery.
SNRC is able to accept patients with Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy Tubes (PEG) and those being treated under a Deprivation of Liberty Safeguard order (DOLS). Unfortunately we cannot accept patients with tracheostomies or naso-gastric feeding tubes or those requiring out-of-hours chest physiotherapy.
Our specialist team includes doctors, nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists. We involve other services when needed, including adult social care and voluntary or charitable organisations.
