Specialist Psychological Interventions (SPI)

We provide specialist psychological assessment and a range of therapeutic support if you are an adult (aged 18 onwards) and experiencing mental health difficulties such as panic, anxiety, depression and psychological disorders such as eating, obsessive compulsive and post traumatic stress.  We work in locations across Somerset including Wells, Yeovil, Bridgwater, Taunton, Minehead and Frome.

Our team includes clinical psychologists, therapists, supervised specialist trainees and support staff. We will work together with you to assess your needs and strengths to make sure you receive the therapy or support that is best for you.

We offer a range of therapies and support. |These are also known as interventions. We will work with you to decide which one is right for you, based on your individual needs. Therapy sessions usually last between 60-90 minutes and may vary in frequency (for example, weekly) depending the type of therapy. We’ll discuss how long we’re able to provide support for you during your first appointment.

We usually recommend you have only one type of therapy at a time, although sometimes you might also be involved in family therapy sessions. We may also need to discuss the best way forward if you are already seeing a private therapist or one working in another NHS service.

How to access our service

You will need to see your GP first. If they feel we can help then they will refer you to the Community Mental Health Service (CMHS). A member of their clinical team will discuss your case with us. Once we’ve agreed we can help then we’ll contact you to arrange an appointment.

If we feel that our support would not be right for you at this time then one of the CMHS team will tell you why and answer any questions you may have. They will also tell you about alternative sources of help.

Unfortunately your GP cannot refer you directly to us and you cannot refer yourself to us.
