Spinal Surgery Service

The spinal surgery service is based at Musgrove Park Hospital and sees both adults and children.

Patients with problems with their neck or back may be referred by services such as the emergency department, general practice (GP), minor injury unit (MIU), musculoskeletal assessment service (North Somerset), orthopaedic assessment service in Somerset (OASIS), as well as out of area referrals.

The team is made up of:

• Spinal surgeons
• Advanced physiotherapy practitioners
• Specialist registrars
• Clinical nurse practitioners
• Medical secretaries

We know most spinal pain, including pain the travels down the arm or leg, will improve with simple medication and/or physiotherapy. It is recommended your GP follows the national pathway (National Back and Radicular Pain Pathway) to help plan your care.
