Treatments

The Beacon Centre has been designed to ensure that your care with us is as smooth and well-coordinated as possible.

Your care team

Throughout your treatment, you will have a named key worker or clinical nurse specialist (CNS) to talk to. He or she will be your first point of contact if you have any questions or difficulties. If there is an unavoidable delay, we will keep you updated and check that you are comfortable.

You will be cared for by a range of specialists, depending on your needs. The team may include specialist doctors, surgeons, nurses and therapists. These experts work together to coordinate your care.

Care that’s personal to you

We tailor all your care to your personal needs and the type of cancer that you have.

We will discuss your personalised care plan with you and make sure that you understand the treatment options available. As part of your care, you may have treatments including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, or drug or biological therapies, or a combination of these options.

Some people find treatment a difficult experience. Challenges can include managing pain, fatigue, and feelings of helplessness. We offer emotional, psychological and practical support, including groups and one-to-one sessions, to help you manage these issues.

We will discuss your emotional, psychological and practical needs with you, to ensure that these form part of your personalised care plan.

Taking part in research

During your treatment, we may invite you to take part in a research study or a clinical trial, to help us improve patient care. We offer this for certain types of cancer and medical conditions. Your doctor or clinical nurse specialist will explain the research study or clinical trial with you. You can choose whether or not to take part. This will not affect your treatment in any way. If you would like more information about taking part in a clinical trial, please ask your hospital doctor.
