Your GP

Once you get your baby’s birth certificate, you should register them at your local GP doctor. Do this quickly so your baby can get care if they need it. If there’s an emergency, you can use your baby’s NHS number to sign them up.

About 6 to 8 weeks after your baby is born, you should see your GP doctor. This visit is for both you and your baby to check how you are both doing. They will also do some check on your baby.

If you missed a smear test because you were pregnant, you should get it done 12 weeks after your baby is born.
